Sublimated Basketball Uniform Buying Guide for Youth and Club Teams
July 28, 2026 · 6 min read
Uniforms are the one order a team cannot redo mid-season. These are the details that decide whether a set looks great in year two.
Why sublimation beats tackle twill for club teams
Dye sublimation bonds the ink into the fabric, so numbers cannot crack, peel, or lift. There is no added weight, no stitching to unravel, and gradients, side panels, and sponsor marks cost nothing extra.
Fit and inseams
Boys shorts come in 5.5-inch and 7.5-inch inseams; girls shorts come in 6.5-inch and 8.5-inch. Younger players almost always prefer the shorter cut, and older players tend to size one length up.
Numbering that referees will accept
Most youth and high-school associations require front and back numbers with a minimum height — commonly 4 inches front and 6 inches back — in a color that clearly contrasts the jersey body. Avoid numbers that sit on top of a busy pattern, and skip digits above 5 in either position if your league follows traditional NFHS numbering.
Home and away sets
A light set and a dark set is the standard. Reversible practice jerseys are a cheaper way to cover a scrimmage schedule without buying a second full set.
Timeline
Build your roster and approve a proof at least four to six weeks before your first game. Our online uniform builder shows a live preview as you pick colors and add names, and you can also send us a mockup you already have — we clean it up and email a proof back within a few hours.
